EPC’S IN LIMBOEarlier this year the commercial property industry was advised about forthcoming changes to EPC regulations, effective from 1st July 2011. These changes proposed the following:1. Rather than having 28 days to commission an EPC before a marketing exercise commences, our clients would have 7 days … with a further 21 days’ grace!2. Trading Standards Officers would be authorised to require agents to show that an EPC has been commissioned where a building appears to have been marketed without one.3. It is proposed that EPC’s will have to be attached to marketing details, in the form of the entire certificate (it was hoped that further changes to this statement would be ‘negotiated’ before the deadline of 1st July).As it happens, a further statement has subsequently been issued via the Department for Communities and Local Government, stating that it has not been possible to bring the amendments to EPC regulations into force on 1st July, and it is now their intention to implement the changes “as soon as possible”.
