Superstore to Spearhead Basing View’s Regeneration
Muse and Basingstoke Council have now received the anticipated planning consent which allows Waitrose and John Lewis at Home to start the construction of a proposed 78,000 superstore. Work is expected to begin on site in a few months’ time, initially involving rerouting part of the road network which runs northwards from Eastrop roundabout to link with Gresley Road.
There is bound to be some short term upheaval to the business community in the vicinity, but this is a major boost to the Council’s £200 million regeneration plans.
It is also thought that a decision is imminent from a major office employer on whether or not to commit to a large design and build scheme for a corporate office HQ on the business district. However, alternative options also remain under consideration.
