BDT Partners endure “hilliest sauna ever”!Now that we can walk without limping again, we can rather belatedly report that 2 of the 3 BDT partners ran in the inaugural Basingstoke Half Marathon back in October this year.Neil Davidson and Richard Thomas braved the searing heat wave of early October to run an undulating 13 mile course which took them out to the villages in the Candover Valley to the south west of Basingstoke. There were 1400 runners on the day, down from the 2000 entrants, so some 600 either had more sense or faked injury!Neither of the BDT partners troubled the winners’ rostrum of course despite having been known to partake in such events previously, albeit on a rather ad-hoc basis. Richard completed the course in just under 1 hour and 45 minutes and was the third fastest team member in the Phillips Solicitors corporate team, who were in turn adjudged the fastest overall corporate team on the day.Neil took a somewhat more sensible and leisurely stroll (or a longer route) with “wife to be” Dawn, finishing in around 2 hours and 25 minutes. Between them the two partners raised around £1,300 for St Michael’s Hospice and The Rainbow Centre, matched again by Dawn’s personal fundraising efforts. Many thanks to all supporters and donors.Unfortunately, the event, organised by Destination Basingstoke (www.destinationbasingstoke. co.uk) was judged a huge success, so the pressure is likely to be on again come 7th October 2012. Howard … there’s no hiding place!!!
